Especially when your showing off is at the expense of your children.
I don't care if your 18mo baby that spent 9 months in a medicinally induced brain fog to control his reflux and ended up so far behind developmentally that his 9mo cousin is now catching up to him.
I don't care if he has finally caught up enough to have been hugging the walls for a week cruising around the house.
I don't care if he has surpassed all your expectations and started letting go of the wall and taking a few steps on his own.
I don't care if no one else in the world gets to see his first few steps.
If it means that he gets so excited that he has a seizure of giddiness while walking toward you and consequently falls over backwards stiff as a board and whacks the back of his head on the unpadded couch frame and gets a goose egg the size of Montana while you stood there and watched with your arms outstretched to catch him when he got to you, it's just not worth it. And it's not like the neighbor really cares that much about your kid, anyway.
