Did you hear the one about the dork of a lady who signed up for a 5k race just because her friend was doing it, didn't bother to train at all, and then to top it all off, on her way to the race she turned around in her seat to get her running shoes from the floor of the van where she put them when she got in just to realize she LEFT THEM ON THE BACK OF HER COUCH!!!!
Yup, I'm the dork.
I'm not ashamed to say it. I signed up for a 5k race, made a conscious decision not to train for it, and then left my shoes at home.
Atleast I'm not the lady wearing the shorty short hot pants with her everything hanging out the back.
Because really, what's so hard about walking 3.1 miles when you were already planning on (trying to) run it? And even if walking fast in 2" flip flops really hurts your (muscle that runs up the outside of your shin bone but I have no idea what it's called), you can always take your shoes off and walk the 3.1 miles barefoot. And even if walking on asphalt hurts your feet, you can always walk on the grass. And as long as you're on the grass where it's nice and soft, you might as well do a little running since you made a playlist to listen to. And even if there is tons of duck poo where the path runs next to the pond, no one is going to care if you walk in the gutter for 40 feet to avoid it. Or the dog poo at the top of the hill. Or the sprinklers next to the rose bushes.
And if you think about it, 39:16 is a very respectable time if we're talking about running barefoot. Heck, 39:16 is a respectable time for me to run 3.1 miles period, with shoes or without.
Amen.
