third base coach

Third base coach. That's what I've decided Ed should be when he grows up.

He knows approximately 20 signs. The problem is that a lot of them look exactly the same. Like dad and horse and cow. All three look like a jazz hand on the top of his head. Also, swing and fish and all done... holds his hands and swings them back and forth in front of him.

Most times, I know exactly what he want from context and, well to be honest mostly he just wants dad and banana and drink. Other times he walks up to me signing away and as far as I can tell he's signing the national anthem.

Cracks me up. And all the while, I'm trying to verify what he is asking for...

fish? banana? drink? water? dad? salad? banana? fish? dad?

Sometimes I'm not sure he really knows what he wants, or if he has figured out that he can communicate through signing and just doesn't know all the signs for what he wants to say so he makes them up and substitutes right and left with words he does know.

Kinda reminds me of when i took russian in high school and would build my conversations out of the words I knew and made up the rest with what I thought might be close.

I guess the good news is that the signs he does know are pretty standard so hopefully the teachers at preschool can figure them out, and the great news is that he has figured out what communicating is in the the first place.

But in any case, I definitely think he should apply to be 3rd base coach.

I'm glad he is figuring out signing. I'm sure it makes it easier most of the time for all of you! So excited about preschool, hope he does good.
