the tea party that almost wasn't

Yesterday was crazy. As in, non-stop from when I rolled out of bed at 9 (i know, it was glorious) until 10:30 when I shut off my iron and went to bed. In the midst of it, Dot decided she was going to have a tea party. She's tried this before and I've managed to talk her into a dress up playdate and out of the tea party because it just felt like so much... work. For me. Selfish, I know. I'm still getting used to this whole girl thing.

Anyhow, I decided what the heck and texted a few mothers to invite their girls because I'm lazy like that and hey, it got Dot out of my hair for a minute when I could tell her I sent invitations. I even went so far as to mix up some box brownies and add a bag of chocolate chips to it before I left Dot with instructions to make sure her Dad heard the timer when it went off while I drove my sister to her rendezvous on my way to the fabric store. Because I still had things to do today, and buying fabric and zippers was a very important part of it all.

Well, I got my sister dropped off and as I tried to turn out of the parking lot I thought, "I should go help with the tea party." But I can't. I'm busy, and I have a meeting to go to tonight. So I turned for the freeway and got stopped at the light and thought, "I should go decorate for the tea party, because Fred's just not going to get it."

So I turned around and went home.

And hung up strips of fabric in the trees. And got out my cut glass dishes from my Grandma Eilertsen. And put the bananas and apples and marshmallows and the brownies in mini muffin papers like I'd seen on Pinterest with a chocolate chip in each one. And told the girls they could choose a piece of fabric from downstairs to use for a tablecloth. And even found a cut glass flower vase that doubled as a pitcher for the juice quite nicely.

And then I told the girls that tea was ready, and Dot invited me to stay and share her teacup.

And I felt like I had done something important.

Super gorgeous little tea party! Nice work...I know how hard it is to take time to do things like that, when there are other things going on.
