the family will play.
You heard me. We waitied a full hour after Fred left for Phoenix on the shiny airplane and then got the party started.
Mostly the party consists of doing a whole lot of absolutely nothing productive, which I'm soooo ready for after this last month of crazy. First on the list, a facebook unfriending. My first. Up to now I've just hidden people I don't want to hear about, but this time I actually unfriended someone and my anxiety levels almost instantly dropped. Funny how that happens, eh?
Second on the list, visit the Moving Wall. Good stuff there. We showed up just as a school group did so we stood in for their little lecture. It was amazing the spirit we felt as the volunteer started talking. It was most definitely hallowed ground.
Third, the reservoir. I've been supremely bummed that we haven't made it once this summer, what with me working and playing household catchup on my days off. (who knew 20 hours a week was so time consuming?) And since I called in sick for the wHOLE wEEK while Fred is off playing in Phoenix, nothing was stopping us and my new swim suit top. Except for my swim suit top being at home. But who cares about that, right? (oh be quiet. i did not go topless.) The little ones and I played for an hour, went home for lunch and a nap while Dot watched a movie, and then went right back with swim suits this time as soon as the older kids got home from school and only came home because we were starving. I even got a little color on my pasty white legs.
Then my FIL came and fixed my new serger that Fred fixed right before he left which I then promptly broke. Mmm hmm. Funny story. We changed the oil (it's an industrial speed-of-light serger) because it was almost opaque and should have been clear but the o-ring for the plug was squished so Fred made a new gasket (I know, huh?) and then spent an hour and a half trying to put the plug back in but it kept cross threading. And then I went out first thing the next morning and added new oil and over filled it so I loosened the plug to drain off the excess and whaddaya know, it crossthreaded again. And ruined the gasket that Fred made for me so I called the trusty FIL and he made me another new one and even threaded the plug back in for me. Yes, I know how good I have it.
And while we're on the subject, have you ever overfilled an industrial serger with oil? It's lovely. Oil seeping out of every orifice imaginable and all over the floor.
AND THAT WAS JUST YESTERDAY!
Today I decided to make up for the fact that I was cranky all day yesterday (on account of facebook, remember) and took a walk to the library for story time (they're much better than they were when I quit going 2 years ago) and then actually stayed and played at the park, after which we went to SOS and shared a bubble gum ice cream for a buck (I felt like splurging) before we went home for lunch. Add to that a nap for Ed, puzzles under the tree with Dot and the neighbor, an hour of reading a new blog while Dot watched TV, a $4 can of super ultra shiny silver paint for Bob's pinewood derby car (told you I felt like splurging), and half an hour pushing kids on the swings in the backyard, and I'm almost mollifed that Fred didn't take us with him to Phoenix.
Almost.
I'm excited to find out what I have planned for tomorrow.
