So Fred's brother is getting married on Friday. His youngest brother, the last of the lot. His bride wants us all to dress up in black, white and red. I think, "Sweet. We all have clothes in those colors and I don't have to do any shopping."
And then we start gathering clothes and matching outfits and collecting Sunday socks. Chuck's suit is navy blue, but it's a pretty dark navy so we're pretending it's black. His shirt, though is a different matter. The cuffs are so dingy it looks like he took pencil lead to them. The whole cuff.
It's his only white shirt.
Fred thinks he knows a secret formula for re-whitening dingy shirts. I'm all for his experiment because I admit I'm a lousy laundress.
Two full cups of Tide, a splash of bleach, a cauldron of boiling water (the same one I make caramel popcorn in) and the Breathing Washer we got for when the world explodes and there is no electricity but we have four boys and a Dottie so we need clean clothes.
I'll let you know how things clean up around here.
***Update: The shirts haven't looked so white since i brought them home from the second-hand store. And the cuffs that looked like they were colored with graphite? Sparkling.

Wow! That does sound like some interesting brew! Can't wait to hear about the results!
I need to get one of these for our emergency supplies! I have been looking at different ones. After being out of electricity for two whole weeks after hurricane Ike, and stir-washing our undies around in the bathtub with a stick, I decided I needed to find a better way.
