Ever work retail and have to deal with the crazy lady with five kids who really needs a vacation to the insane asylum, or else some serious controlled meds that require a picture ID to pick up from the pharmacy? There was one in line trying to get into the swimming pool today, and boy was she a piece of work.
She actually seemed fairly functional until the guy taking her money told her she had to have a diaper for her kid who was under four, and when he told her there were no exceptions even if they were potty trained, she just kinda spaced out and stared off into space and started crying.
No kidding. Crying over a diaper.
So she finally quits boobing and asks how much they are and he says the disposables are $1 and the rubber ones are $7 so she orders a disposable one and (the nerve of him) he tells her she has to have both. $8 to get the 2 year old with no admission fee into the stinking pool. I think that's when she started to go over the edge because she demanded that he just give her her money back because they were going somewhere else to play.
Apparently he wasn't trained in how to refund money because he had to go get some other lady to do it, but by the time she got there and explained the situation, the crazy lady decided she wanted to stay anyway, only they were going to rock climb and could she have admission to that.
No problem, except that the rock gym didn't open until later that afternoon. More crying, more demanding of a refund, more ranting about how her kid has been potty trained for a year and wasn't there an exception to be made, embarrased pool employees trying not to look as this lady has a meltdown over a diaper, even more crying until the crazy lady finally points at the floor and glares at her kids (who have no idea what's going on) and threatens them if they don't stay right there until she comes back so she can go out to her car to get more money because she has finally decided to just fork out the lousy 8 bucks so her kid can wear a diaper to swim.
Sheesh. Someone give her some valium.
Oh, and did I mention the crazy lady was me? I'm just glad Fred agreed to fight with the pharmacist about Eddie's meds that they shorted us last time. There would have been no happy ending to that one.

I think you have every right to be upset! Swimming ppols have ridiculous rules anyways. Mind sharing some of that Valium with me? ...I would create a lovely post like you did about my great week, but it being a public domain, I dare not... i might get fired. :)
Hope you feel better!
Oh, poor Lanie... xoxo
Don't you hate those kind of rules! Hope your day goes better today!! love you.
Okay, so apparently one of your friends is completely oblivious and lame and only worried about her own kids. This friend had the nerve to just saunter back into the locker rooms and start getting ready while Shelane was still out front and needed some kind of a support system. That friend is perhaps not a very good friend at all. I think I will have a talk with her and maybe even kick her in the behind.
The whole time I'm reading this I'm thinking, sheesh! Why is she being so hard on the poor lady? She obviously was having a hard day--it could have easily been me with those 5 kids having the meltdown and glaring at my kids. I know I have had those days. Don't be so hard on yourself. I was laughing too because it could so easily be me!
i remember when that happened to ME at the lehi pool!
I can relate - not to having 5 kids, I only have 3 - but to the meltdown. I have had out of body experiences when I am having a mini-sode.
I have them more frequently when I am dealing with lots of stress and it only takes one wrong word to completely push me over the edge with tears, screams and total craziness. ((HUGGS)) from a mom who understands & relates.
PS that guy would have been the one to wear the diaper by the end of one of my mini-sodes.
