"We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel. . . is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become."--Ursula K. LeGuin
Not that I needed any justification for the amount of time I spend reading, but I found this on RP's blog and thought it was really profound, like I had never thought of reading in that way. Especially when so much of my brain power is wrapped up in the day to day mundane tasks of rearing children, reading seems to re-awaken that part of my brain that is dormant through all the diaper changes and reminds me of the wide world there is outside my front door. Another epiphany, courtesy of reading, and Buttercup, who was kind enough to put it on her blog. I hope you don't mind me pirating it!

Isn't that a GREAT quote?! I found it while doing research for an art project when I was in college. It's strange, but I distinctly remember the moment I came across it sitting in the library on campus. I had lots of profound moments back then. Now I feel like I'm just trying to do my best to stay near a 4th graders level at best! (Many of the books I read, are suggested by my oldest son--I read them to understand him.)
